Caregiver Support Toolkit | FAITH & COMMUNITY

You are not alone – faith, family, and community are your foundation

Caregivers consistently point to faith, extended family, and community as their greatest sources of strength. This section helps you build and lean on those networks.

WAYS FAITH COMMUNITIES CAN HELP

  • Meal trains during hospitalizations
  • Childcare for siblings during long stays
  • Transportation to appointments
  • Prayer groups and spiritual support
  • Fundraising support during financial hardship

BUILDING YOUR SUPPORT NETWORK

  • Identify 2-3 people who can help without being asked
  • Join an SCD family support group (virtual or local)
  • Connect your child with SCD peer mentors
  • Share your story – your experience helps others
  • Accept help graciously – it strengthens community

KEY RESOURCES:

  • Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee

Local support, education, and advocacy for Tennessee families living with sickle cell disease.

  • MealTrain

Coordinate meal deliveries from your community during hospital stays or difficult periods at home.

LETTING OTHERS IN IS A STRENGTH

You don’t have to translate your experience to receive support. Seek out people who already understand — whether that’s an SCD support group or a trusted community elder.
