The Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee was founded to meet the unmet needs of individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease. The foundation educates Sickle Cell consumers about how to manage their disease and improve their quality of life. SCFT promotes the concept, “live a life worth living”. Therefore, SCFT provides consumers with the resources, materials, and tools to foster interdependence, which ultimately increases education and their quality of health care.
The SCFT has been recognized as the official chapter for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America in the state of Tennessee. SCFT was recognized as the 2010-2011 Sickle Cell community-based organization of the year by the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. In 2012, SCFT was recognized as the Corporation of the Year by the Stone Awards and recently was recognized for its positive impact in the community by the Memphis Black Expo.
Throughout its short history SCFT has built a considerable momentum. In just 6 years the organization has developed an effective array of successful programs with measurable outcomes, cultivated a qualified and capable staff and dedicated volunteer team and established community-wide support with a strong base of collaborations and strategic partnerships.
William Terrell MD is a pediatrician licensed to practice pediatrician in Georgia and Tennessee. Dr. Terrell holds medical degrees at Meharry Medical College, 1972 and Xavier University, 1961. Presently, he practices pediatrics at Memphis/Shelby County Pediatric Group. He is a member of the Bluff City Medical Society, Pro Duffers South, Xavier Univerisity of Louisiana Memphis Alumni Chapter, Meharry Medical College Alumni and Sigman Pi Phi Fraternity. He is married to Annie Belle Terrell.
Lewis was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia and the University of Mississippi School of Law. He is a partner in the law firm of Watkins & Eager PLLC in Jackson, Mississippi, which is the oldest and one of the largest law firms in the State of Mississippi. Lewis concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury, product liability and commercial litigation. www.watkinseager.com Lewis is a deacon at First Presbyterian Church (P.C.A.) in Jackson, Mississippi and serves on the local board of Neighborhood Christian Center, a tutoring and Christian ministry to inner city children and young adults. He is married and has three children.
Phil Brown has taken Global Green Tech Structures to new heights. He has spearheaded International joint venture deals in Abu Dhabi, UAE and South Africa. Through promoting this ground breaking building envelope technology offered by the Global Green Tech Structures, he has amassed a following from International Governments, to Shakes, Global sustainable technology leaders and Builders / Developers. Phil has also assisted his Chairmen of the Board in creating a turnkey solution to sustainable housing initiatives in Antigua by sourcing and shipping complete house packages to include all applicable building materials and finishes to provide an all inclusive offering to clients reducing their sourcing needs for materials by 80 %. He has recently gained company approval from MASDAR to manufacture panels and cladding system for the 1st CO2 neutral city in the world, housing over 75,000 handpicked citizens to live. Shortly thereafter Phil has been able to secure a deal in South Africa that involves the supply of panels for a golf estate project for over 800 villas, condos houses, club house and hotel. Along with the approval by the Minister of Housing for Cape Town SA to pilot a program to build 100 RDP / BNG houses to help stimulate the eradication of the human settlements. Currently Phil is working in North America on a marketing campaign to promote and educate governments, builders / developers, architect / engineering communities and the motoring public on the importance of implementing green sustainable technologies for a bright future around the world. Phil’s level of expertise and experience has made him a great fit as President for Global Green Tech Structures, LLC.Phil Brown comes to Global Green Tech Structures with more than 12 years of experience in the Fortune 50 community. He has led performance by breaking records in all positions held, managing over $150,000,000 in Sales.During his corporate tenure, Phil became a real estate investor and later transitioned into a builder/ developer starting his company KENBRO Properties, LLC, and KENBRO Global Tech. Phil has over 9 years of real estate interests constructing / managing commercial and residential projects. His additional experience as a licensed builder includes project management, training, consulting, land acquisition, site development, as well as zoning and permitting for both commercial and residential verticals.Phil is a graduate of Tuskegee University where he obtained Bachelors in Science in Marketing and a Minor in Economics. He resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Patricia Adams-Graves graduated from Tennessee State University with a BS in Biology & in Medical Technology (MTASCP). She then obtained her medical degree from the University of Louisville in Louisville KY, where she remained for an additional 3 years for an internal medicine residency. Dr. Adams-Graves relocated to Memphis, TN for a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of TN, Memphis (UTHSC). She also participated in additional fellowships at Veterans Administration Hospital, Baptist Memorial Hospital, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She later became an Assistant Professor for the Department of Medicine in the division of hematology/Oncology. In 1995, Dr. Adams-Graves was named the Director of the Adult Diggs-Kraus Sickle Cell (SC) Center that serves over 500 SC patients accounting for over 2,000 patient visits per year. In 2002, she became Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the UTHSC. Three years ago she implemented the first sickle cell disease-specific hospital unit in the nation and a computer education curriculum for nurses who deliver SC care utilized across the nation. The National Institutes of Health has selected her to serve on national sickle cell research boards for the past 11 years and to chair research sessions at the National Sickle Cell Meetings. Dr. Adams-Graves is a member of various professional organizations, including the American Society of Hematology, Bluff City Medical Society, American Cancer Society and the American College of Physicians, TN Medical Society. She holds numerous publications in various journals.
Lorenzo Derek Renfroe is a native of Memphis, Tennessee where he graduated from Southside High School. Attorney Renfroe is a graduate of Lake Forest College (Lake Forest, IL) with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, Washington University in Saint Louis with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. During his engineering career, he worked as at Test and Evaluation Engineer on the Tomahawk Cruise Missile during his employment with McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company. Attorney Renfroe later graduated from Southern Illinois University’s School of Law and is an Attorney licensed to practice law in the States of Illinois and Tennessee. Attorney Renfroe has served on various boards including but not limited to Bethany Home, Memphis Leadership Foundation and the Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee, Inc. He is the father of four children, Bruce Derek, Lorenzo, Caleb and Maci Grace Renfroe. He is married to Dr. Yvette Williams-Renfroe and is a member of The Life Church of Memphis where he serves as on the Usher Team. Attorney Renfroe is a 1993 Graduate of Leadership Memphis and is also active in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. where he was a Founding Member of the Alpha Memphis Education Foundation. He is passionate in his commitment to his community and continues to serve Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity both locally and nationally. Attorney Renfroe is committed to the mission of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee, Inc.
Michael is an ex officio board member of SCFT serving from 2011-2017. His educational and leadership accomplishments include University of Illinois, College of Business, 1998 with C-BA in Business Administration. A former banker with over 25 years experience in business management. Board Certified with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP) and a 2012 Graduate from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition as a Certified Health Coach. He is currently studying Integrative Medicine at Quantum University (IQUIM) (BA- Holistic Health Sciences). Since 2012, he has served several community-based non-profits as an Outreach Educator, Facilitator and Wellness Coach focusing on the health and wellness of families and individuals. Michael is a Certified Community Health Worker (2017) through the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc. (SCDAA).
